It is the Social membership of the UCT RFC – be part of our club and the ikeys – get active playing Tag Rugby® or in the Steinhoff Internal League. Most of all it is your ticket to a great vibe in the colours of your university. Read ABOUT for more
Do you have to go to lectures? It is up to you, but to make the most of it, have fun with your mates, make new ones and get fit, it is important that you do – give it a go.
We have partnered up with TAG Rugby® who is affiliated with the South African Rugby Union (SARU). Tag Rugby® is relatively new to South Africa but there are 500,000 people playing it weekly in Australia, New Zealand and the UK. Instead of just having to touch your opponent, you will be required to remove one of their tags which are attached to a belt using velcro. All the rules are explained before the game and learning them is a lot easier when one just plays the game. During the months of February to April we run a full Tag Rugby® league as well as social games. All games are reffed by fully trained TAG Rugby® referees and no equipment is required on your side other than some clothes to play in perhaps.
No problem…we have fully trained coaches and staff to help the absolute beginner (“I-can’t-throw-a-rugby-ball beginners”). Before the end of one session you will be playing a full game of Tag Rugby® and next thing you know, you will be joining a team.
The Tag Rugby® league started this year and we had 10 teams entered. The Prize Money was definitely worth the effort for all involved…1st place got R4000, 2nd place R2000 and 3rd place R1000. The league runs for 8 weeks and starts in mid-February and runs until mid-April. Games will be played come rain or shine. Anyone can play. Minimum of 5 players per team. Girls score 2 points per try.
Simples! Part of your package is to allow all IAPO students to sign for 3 clubs/societies for “FREE” (its already factored into your fees). All you need to do is go on over to the Sports Centre on Upper Campus, go to the Sports Admin Offices (immediately up the stairs as you enter the Sports Centre Main Entrance) and speak to Dot who will be able to sort you out.
Ever heard of the Nadoes, Cobras, Clarendon or Spanners? They are some of our close to 30 internal league teams that play social (full contact) rugby every Wednesday night. Join Ikeys Vibe – the UCT Rugby Social if you want to play
If you want to join one of our 10 league teams – seniors or u20s – you need to join THE CLUB as a rugby player, rather than as a social member. There are fun to serious teams, depending on your level and aspirations – you will of course also get the Ikeys Vibe membership card and deals, being part of the family and all.
Signups happen from the day the UCT Residences open until mid March. Find us on jammie plaza – at your res – at the game – look out for the Ikeys Vibe truck and/or gazebos or go to the UCTRFC offices located in the Sports Centre (that giant, concrete monster of a building situated at the end of the Green Mile). Unfortunately, IAPO (international exchange students) can only sign up with Faiza at the Sports Admin Offices in the Sports Centre.
The Ikeys Vibe Rugby Social membership fee is R545 for the year, which comes off your student account. It will appear on your student fees account as Ikeys Vibe Social Rugby. Please obtain the permission of the person who pays your account first before signing up for something as it does cost money.
