Sax Appeal Success
The 2013 UCT Sax Appeal went on sale this week Thursday and the 1st years hit the streets in style.
The UCT annual Sax Appeal magazine showcases some of the best South African writers and satirists, and introduces readers to some fresh talent from the students too. Sales of the magazine go towards UCT’s SHAWCO, an organisation set up to improve the quality of life of previously disadvantaged individuals in developing communities within the Cape Town metropolitan area.
Hundreds of crazy 1st year students hit the streets this year selling the Sax Appeal. The campaign this year was such a scary success that even the hashtag #SaxAppeal was trending nationally on twitter.
Big-ups and massive props to Shaun Fickling, 2013 editor-and-chief (pictured in middle with helmet). He has been working flat out to produce a quality product this year with stringent attention to detail…to quote the man himself “we kept it all font size 10…no messing with it to try fill pages easier”.
As usual, the Sax Appeal sparked up some debate as to whether the theme this year (zombie apocalypse) wasn’t too disturbing/violent. Ummmm OK? But what would the Sax Appeal be if it didn’t kick up some controversy…probably a publication from a different university that don’t like to question everything and just go with the grain. Great Job guys!!!
