DOWNERS 2012

What better way to kickoff the new term? Downers 2012 is here to stay as students got to discover the joy that is 6-down touch rugby…with a twist!

The Cup Winners – the REBELS (beating the McDreamy Medics) had the most (5) girls on the team!! Each team member got a prize from Virgin Active – an Adidas Sports bag with a water bottle and sweat towel to boot!

The Plate Winners – CLARINUS (beating the Soccer Guys) managed to walk away with an amazing R50 Kauai voucher for each member of the team!

The emphasis is on the event being completely social and not so much winning but how you win! Teams had to have a girl on the team and a girl try counted 2 points! Teams soon realised just how important it was to have a good girl player.

Some highlights of the day include:

• Soccer guy wearing scrum cap.
  
• Soccer disqualified for having 6 guys on the field in opening match.
  
• Ikhaya girl being first on team to finish downing beer at start.
  
• Dummies being separated for first time.
  
• Dummies 1 being beaten by Med students in a boat race.
  
• Tactical use of girls for double points
  
• College, pre-tournament favorites, being beaten twice
