Overview

  • The tournament takes place between 11am and 4pm on the UCT Rugby B Field (at the very bottom of Jammie Steps).
  • All matches last 10 minutes, with a 2 minute changeover time until the next game.
  • The 30 teams are divided into 10 pools of 3 teams (see reverse side for fixture times).
  • All matches start exactly at the start time, if you do not have a full team on the field when the starting hooter goes off, your team forfeits the game.
  • If a team fails to make it to a game, the remaining players who made the match will split up and play a practice game.

Tournament Structure

  • A team scores 1 point for winning and 0 for losing a match. In the result of a tie, the team that scored the first try wins. A forfeit counts as an automatic loss.
  • After the end of each match, during the 2 minute gap, the referee will go report the match result of the tournament administrator.
  • If teams are level on log points at the end of the pool stage, the team which scored the most tries wins the pool.
  • The winner of each pool will advance to the knockout round which takes places between 2:30- 4pm.

Tournament Rules

  • The students will play the basic three-touch form of touch rugby.
  • In the 2 minutes before the game starts, the refs will explain all the major rules to players.
  • Once a player has been touched, they roll the ball between their legs to restart play, while the opposition team must retreat 5m or to their own try line (if less than 5m away).
  • Teams must have a minimum of 6 players on the field at all times. Substitutions are continuous and players can sub at any time. The player coming off must be completely off the field before the player coming on steps onto the field.
  • If the ball goes out of play or is dropped, the ball is turned-over.
  • Each match will be officiated by a referee. Their decision is final.
